RAEFORD - A body was found on Fort Bragg this morning and military law enforcement is investigating, Fort Bragg spokesman Ben Abel said.
Few details were available, such as whether foul play is thought to be a factor.
The body was found near Plank Road on the Hoke County side of Fort Bragg, a mostly wooded natural area where soldiers conduct training exercises.
The roads in that area are open to the general public, and portions of Fort Bragg in this vicinity are available to the public for outdoor activities.
In 2000, three men involved in a drug and murder for hire conspiracy killed a man off Plank Road and buried him there.
In 2011, a soldier was accidentally shot to death by a hunter while jogging on the All-American Trail, a cycling, running and hiking path that runs along the perimeter of that side of Fort Bragg.
