The “America’s Got Talent” judges were not very kind to Spc. Paul Ieti on Tuesday night’s semifinals round.
Fortunately, it will be up to the voting public to determine whether the 22-year-old petroleum supply specialist will continue in the competition.
Ieti sang a slow, piano-backed rendition of the Backstreet Boys’ 1999 hit “I Want it That Way.”
It turned out, none of the judges wanted to hear it that way. They criticized Ieti’s performance and said he lacked confidence. Howie Mandel told Ieti he was outperformed by a 12-year-old girl who opened the show with Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway.”
Following Tuesday night’s episode, Ieti took to his Facebook page (with 9,500-plus likes) to thank his fans. “No matter what, IM HAPPY!!!! #teampaul #votepaul #agt,” Ieti wrote.
His fans came to his defense, saying the judges got it all wrong.
You can find out tonight whether Ieti secured enough votes to advance.
The results show airs tonight at 9 p.m., Eastern Standard on NBC.
The 21-year-old American Samoa native serves with A Company, 603rd Aviation Support Battalion, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade.
The show wraps up Sept. 17, when the winner claims a $1 million grand prize.
