Several general officers with Fort Bragg ties will take on new assignments in the coming months.
In two news releases, military leaders announced changes for dozens of generals.
The first came from Army leaders Jan. 30. Those with local ties include:
Brig. Gen. Mark C. Schwartz, who will become deputy commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas.
Schwartz is in Afghanistan serving as deputy commander of Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan.
Previously, he was deputy commander of Joint Task Force-Bragg for U.S. Special Operations Command and led the 3rd Special Forces Group from 2010 to 2012. He also served as chief of staff for Joint Special Operations Command.
Brig. Gen. Sean P. Swindell, who will become commander of Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan and NATO Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan.
Swindell is commander of Special Operations Joint Task Force-Bragg and previously served with the 7th Special Forces Group before that unit moved from Fort Bragg to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
Swindell was a detachment commander, headquarters support company commander, group assistant operations officer, battalion operations officer and group operations officer for 7th Group.
Maj. Gen. Thomas C. Seamands, who will become commanding general of U.S. Army Human Resources Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Seamands is director of Military Personnel Management G-1 for the U.S. Army.
Previously, he was deputy chief of staff for personnel of U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg. He also has served in the 82nd Airborne Division and 18th Airborne Corps.
Maj. Gen. Leslie C. Smith, who will become deputy to the inspector general in the Office of the Secretary of the Army.
Smith is commanding general of the U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Previously, he served with the 82nd Airborne Division in the division artillery.
Brig. Gen. David B. Haight, who will become director, J-3, for U.S. European Command, Germany.
Haight was most recently commander of Regional Command-East, Afghanistan.
He began his career in the 82nd Airborne Division and later served as deputy director and chief of operations for the Army Compartmented Element of U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg.
Haight also commanded the 82nd Airborne's 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, deploying with the unit to Iraq.
One more general assignment with Fort Bragg ties was announced Monday.
The chief of staff of the Air Force said Maj. Gen. Warren D. Berry will be assigned as director of logistics at Air Combat Command headquarters, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.
Berry is director of logistics at Air Mobility Command headquarters at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.
Early in his career, then-Capt. Berry served in several posts at what was then Pope Air Force Base.
The jobs included command post controller/emergency actions officer and special assistant for quality improvement for the 23rd Wing from November 1992 to March 1994 and sortie generation flight commander for the 2nd Airlift Squadron from March 1994 to February 1995.
Berry's final assignment at Pope was as squadron maintenance officer for the 75th Fighter Squadron from February 1995 to December 1995.
